About Us

Founded collectively in 2017 together with artists carrying out sustainable work in various branches of the arts in the region, the Mordem Art and Ecological Living Association believes that protecting and promoting cultural expressions and their diversity is a human right, and defends everyone’s right to access cultural and artistic activities and to spread them. Mordem Sanat is a civil society organisation that contributes to the field of culture and the arts; besides offering a space where the region’s artists and art lovers can access cultural and artistic events and realise their projects, it also brings these events to communities that otherwise have no access to them.

The Mordem Sanat Association has an independent arts complex with a convertible 160-seat theatre and cinema hall, a backstage area, a dance studio, music rooms, a sculpture workshop, an office and a foyer. In addition to workshops in various branches of the arts (cinema, theatre, music, drama, dance, visual arts, sculpture, etc.), it provides psychosocial empowerment training through art. Emphasising interdisciplinary communication and the importance of building production relationships by creating joint works, Mordem Sanat holds screenings, performances, panels and seminars across many fields of art, as well as international solo festivals, film festivals, exhibitions and concerts, in order to get to know, bring together and share the artistic disciplines of different cultures and to build a collective memory.

Considering it its duty to speak out on democratic rights and to contribute to building social peace, Mordem Sanat maintains that art is the finest path towards the ideal of creating a society that is peaceful, conscious, democratic, just and free from egocentrism; a society that protects nature and is founded on teachings that marginalise no one because of their identity or orientation. It maintains that ethnic and cultural differences are the riches of society. It nurtures a pluralist consciousness against social polarisation and discrimination and leads the way in individuals’ participation in cultural life. It carries out activities to prevent the loss of cultural rights. In this context, its mission is to develop and expand opportunities for access to and participation in culture and the arts; to prioritise and strengthen events and work that contribute to cultural pluralism; to contribute to the protection of cultural heritage so that cultural values and diversity are preserved and kept alive; and to contribute to the institutionalisation of social peace by taking part in solidarity and cooperation efforts with rights-based civil society organisations.
