“SoloFest6: On the Verge of Disappearing”

As Mordem Art and Ecological Living Association, since our founding we have pursued the mission of restoring to society the artistic forms of the local peoples of our region, above all Kurdish culture, that are on the verge of being forgotten. In line with this mission, we have been organising SoloFest for the past six years. SoloFest6, which we will hold this year, centres on cultural heritage and its transmission. In the International Solo Festivals, which we organise drawing inspiration from the one-person storytelling tradition in Kurdish culture, we have featured one-person storytelling forms from local and foreign cultures, striving to pass them on and keep them alive.
This year’s theme of our festival, “On the Verge of Disappearing”, aims not only to preserve cultural heritage but also to enrich and pass on this heritage by sharing it with different cultures. In this context, by featuring one-person storytelling forms from local and foreign cultures, we believe that the interaction of these artistic forms with one another helps different cultures to understand and develop one another. Throughout the festival, the cultural exchange between artists and audiences will offer an opportunity to share different life experiences, storytelling traditions and forms of artistic expression; at the same time, the festival aims to be more than an event where artistic performances are simply presented, becoming a platform that encourages intercultural dialogue and cooperation. Having previously held our festival with artists from Italy, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq and various cities of Türkiye, we are planning to hold its sixth edition this year between 17 and 26 October 2025. In this context, we are pleased to announce that applications are now open to artists working in the fields of solo plays, contemporary dance, traditional storytelling genres, contemporary ritual and performance.
To apply to the festival, an application file containing a short summary of the play/performance, a full recording of the performance, its credits and contact details must be sent by e-mail to [email protected] by 30.06.2025.
