LABHUB is a co-production project carried out under the VAHA programme. By bringing together independent arts and culture actors from different cities, the project aims to support practices of cultural memory, collective production and building relationships with local communities.
In this context, Mordem Sanat, Şaneşîn Performans and Nîsk Huner carried out a joint work within the framework of LABHUB. The three organisations came together to research and document Çarşema Zîpa, a festive tradition that holds an important place in Kurdish culture, and to revive this traditional celebration by creating a contemporary prototype of it.
As part of this work, Çarşema Zîpa-themed festivities were held in Mardin, Batman and Diyarbakır. At these events, narratives and rituals handed down from the past were researched, and this cultural heritage was reinterpreted through contemporary artistic forms. In this way, ties were built with local communities and Kurdish cultural memory was made visible.
In keeping with the overall spirit of LABHUB, this process was carried out using an experimental, participatory and collective method. At every stage, from research to implementation, artists from different disciplines and community members played an active role.
